Funnel building is the hands-on craft of assembling pages in a builder: sections, rows, elements, forms, mobile layouts and page speed. Strategy decides what the funnel should do. Funnel building decides whether the page loads in under two seconds on a phone, whether the form works, and whether the button is where a thumb can reach it. This article covers the builder itself in the levelpartner.ai platform, the order to assemble a page in, and the build habits that keep pages fast and editable.
Why build quality decides conversion
A visitor on a phone gives your page a few seconds. If the hero image is still loading, the headline wraps badly or the form needs zooming, they leave before reading a word. Most firms of 10 to 250 staff get more than half their funnel visits from phones, yet build at desktop width.
Clean building also keeps pages maintainable. A page built from consistent sections can be edited by anyone on the team. A page built from nested workarounds can only be fixed by the person who made it.
How the builder is organised
Pages in the builder stack in four levels. Sections are the full-width bands. Rows sit inside sections and hold columns. Columns hold elements: headlines, text, images, buttons, forms, calendars, videos. Every style you set at section level flows down, so set fonts and colours once, high up, and override rarely.
Before you start
- Final copy for the page, with the headline, three to five supporting points and the call to action.
- Images compressed and sized for the web before upload.
- Your brand colours and fonts noted, so you can set them once in the page settings.
- The form or calendar the page will use, already created.
How to set it up
- Go to Sites, open Funnels and click Edit on a page.
- Click the + icon, choose Sections and pick Full Width.
- Drag a Row into the section and select 1 Column.
- Click Add Element and drag in a Headline.
- Add a Sub-Headline and a button below the headline.
- Repeat sections for the problem, the solution and the proof.
- Open Forms & Surveys in the left sidebar and add your form.
- Click the mobile phone icon and fix anything that wraps badly.
- Click the save icon, preview the page, then click Publish.
Speed habits that pay off
Compress every image before upload, and never use a background video above the fold. Keep custom code to the minimum, because each script slows the first paint. Use one font family with two weights. These habits cost nothing and keep your pages fast on the slow connections your buyers often use.
Name sections clearly in the builder, such as "hero", "proof" and "form". When you come back in three months, you will find what you need in seconds. For the strategic side of what each page should contain, the guide on how to build a click funnel covers what each page holds.
Take a valuation page with a full-width video and four fonts that takes several seconds to show the headline on a phone. A rebuild would use one compressed image, one font and a form within the first two screens. If the headline then appeared in under two seconds, more visitors would stay long enough to reach the form. That is where any gain in completions would come from.
Time it takes and what it replaces
Building a single page with ready copy takes two to four hours the first time and under an hour once you have saved sections. It replaces sending design briefs to a freelancer for each change. Your marketing lead can make the edit the same day.
Designing for desktop and checking mobile last. By then the layout is set and every fix is a compromise. Start in mobile view, then widen.
When not to build it yourself
If you need a complex interactive tool, such as a configurator with dozens of options, the drag-and-drop builder is the wrong place. Build that as a custom element or use a specialist tool and link to it. For most service pages, the builder is enough. For a page meant only to capture leads quickly, see the landing page maker guide.
Troubleshooting
Text changes do not appear on the live page. The page was saved but not published. Publish the step, then reload with the cache cleared.
Elements overlap on mobile. A fixed width was set on a column. Remove the fixed width and let the column fill the screen.
The form submits but shows no thank-you. The form's on-submit action is empty. Set it to go to the next funnel step or show a message.
Fonts look different from your brand. The font was set on one element rather than the page. Set it in page settings and remove element-level overrides.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need design skills to build funnels?
No, but you do need restraint. Use saved sections, one font, two colours and plenty of space. Most poor funnels come from adding too much, not from lacking design talent.
Can I use custom code in a page?
Yes, through a custom code element. Use it sparingly and test page speed after adding it. Any third-party script you add slows the page for every visitor.
Should I build from a template or from blank?
Templates are faster for a first page. Once you have built a few pages, your own saved sections are faster still and match your brand. For building the full path rather than one page, read how to build a funnel, and use the landing page creator guide for standalone pages.
