How to build a digital marketing funnel

How to build a digital marketing funnel depends on getting several channels to feed one path. Search, social, email, SMS and paid ads each reach buyers at a different moment. A digital marketing funnel gives each channel a role, sends them all to the same conversion point, and keeps one record of every touch. This article shows how to assign roles to channels, connect them in the levelpartner.ai platform, and avoid the common trap of running each channel as its own disconnected campaign.

Give each channel one job

Channels are not interchangeable. Search catches people who already know their problem. Social puts you in front of people who do not yet know they need you. Email and SMS keep in touch with people who have shown interest. Paid ads speed up whichever of these you already do well.

Write a one-line job for each channel you use. For example: search brings in people looking for a mortgage review, social builds familiarity with your advisers, email nurtures people who downloaded the first-time buyer guide, SMS confirms and reminds bookings. If a channel has no job, drop it.

Before you start

  • A list of your channels and the job of each, no more than four.
  • One conversion point that every channel leads to, such as a booking page.
  • A content plan for the month: what each channel will publish and when.
  • Email sending and SMS numbers verified, and your social accounts connected.

How to set it up

  1. Give each channel one job and one destination page.
  2. Go to Sites, open Funnels and click New Funnel.
  3. Choose From Blank and build the offer page.
  4. In the Pages drawer, click Add New Page for the booking or form page.
  5. Click Save, then Publish.
  6. In Automation, open Workflows and click + Create Workflow.
  7. Choose Start from scratch.
  8. Click Add New Trigger and choose Form Submitted.
  9. Add the Form Is filter, select your form and save.
  10. Add a Send Email action ending with the booking link.
  11. Add a Wait action, then the next nurture email.
  12. Add a Goal Event so contacts who book leave the nurture.
  13. Turn on the Publish toggle, then click Save.

How the channels hand off to each other

Most buyers touch several channels before they book. They see a post, later search your name, download the guide, read three emails and then book. The platform keeps every touch on one contact record, so you can see the path rather than crediting only the last click.

That matters when you decide where to spend. A channel that rarely gets the last click may still start most journeys. Cutting it can quietly reduce bookings months later. For how the stages line up, see the guide to marketing funnel stages.

Illustration: a 55-person consultancy mapping its channels

Suppose a firm uses four channels. Partner posts on social reach 5,000 people a month, search brings 600 site visits, the guide download adds 90 contacts, and email nurture turns 15 of those into bookings while SMS reminders keep no-shows down. A last-click report would credit email with most bookings. If the contact histories showed most of those people started on social, cutting the partner posts would starve the rest of the funnel.

Weekly time and what it replaces

Expect three to four hours a week across content and review: creating and scheduling posts, writing one email, and reading the channel report. It replaces separate tools for social scheduling, email and forms, each with its own list of the same people.

The common mistake

Posting on every social network because you can. Each extra network takes time and usually adds little. Pick the one or two where your buyers spend working time, and do them well.

When not to run a multi-channel funnel

If you have no one with time to create content weekly, a multi-channel funnel will stall within a month. Start with one channel and one conversion point, prove it works, then add the next. A single strong channel beats four neglected ones. The content marketing funnel guide covers the content-heavy version in more depth.

Troubleshooting

Social posts fail to publish. The connection to the social account has expired. Reconnect it in the social planner and reschedule the failed posts.

Every contact shows the same source. All channels use the same link. Give each channel its own tracking link.

Email nurture gets opens but no bookings. The emails are useful but do not ask. End every second email with a clear invitation and a link.

SMS reminders arrive at night. The workflow sends at booking time minus a fixed number of hours. Add a time window so messages only send in business hours.

Frequently asked questions

How many channels should a firm our size run?

Two to four, each with a clear job. Most firms get the best return from search, one social network and email. Add paid ads once you know which message converts.

Do I need a separate tool for social scheduling?

No. The social planner schedules posts across connected accounts from the same platform as your funnels and CRM. That keeps the contact who replies to a post in the same record as the one who books.

How do I know which channel deserves more budget?

Look at bookings and revenue by channel, then check the full contact histories of recent clients. The report shows the last touch, while the histories show where journeys start. For the layout of that report, see marketing funnel dashboard, and for paid traffic into a short funnel, read about click funnel marketing.
