How to build a sales funnel for affiliate marketing

How to build a sales funnel for affiliate marketing is a different problem from building one for your own ads. The visitor arrives on a partner's recommendation, already carrying some trust, and the partner wants to see that their referral was looked after. The funnel's job is to honour that trust, credit the partner correctly and report back. This article covers the pages, the follow-up and the reporting that make a partner-fed funnel work on the levelpartner.ai platform. The commission rules themselves are covered in the separate guide to the affiliate manager.

Why partner traffic needs its own funnel

A visitor from a paid ad knows nothing about you. A visitor from a partner has been told you are worth talking to. Sending both to the same generic page wastes the second visitor's head start. A partner-specific page can name the referrer, skip the explanation of who you are, and move straight to the offer.

When you build an affiliate marketing funnel this way, partners also send more. They can see their audience gets a page that speaks to them, so recommending you feels safe.

Before you start

  • An affiliate campaign already set up with commission rules and partner links.
  • A main offer funnel that converts from your own traffic. Partners should not be your test audience.
  • A short paragraph from each major partner about who their audience is.
  • A pipeline stage or tag to mark contacts who came from a partner.

How to set it up

  1. Go to Sites, open Funnels and select your main offer funnel.
  2. Create a partner version through New Funnel, From Blank.
  3. Rewrite the opening section to acknowledge the referral.
  4. Make dedicated versions for your two or three largest partners.
  5. Click Save, then Publish each version.
  6. In Automation, open Workflows and click + Create Workflow.
  7. Choose Start from scratch.
  8. Click Add New Trigger and choose Form Submitted.
  9. Add the Form Is filter, select your form and save.
  10. Select each partner form, then add Assign to User.
  11. Add Send Internal Notification so the salesperson hears at once.
  12. Turn on the Publish toggle, then click Save.
  13. Send each partner their link and ask them to test it.

What a partner-fed page should and should not say

Open with the connection: "You are here because Smith and Co recommended us." Then state the offer and the outcome. Leave out the long credibility section a cold visitor needs. The partner has already done that work.

Do not promise anything the partner did not. If they described your service loosely, your page sets the record straight in plain terms. A visitor who arrives with wrong expectations becomes a poor client and an awkward conversation with the partner. For page structure, see the landing page creator guide.

Illustration: a 45-person agency with three referral partners

Suppose an agency gets referrals from a web developer, a printer and a business coach, and each partner gets a page naming them. The monthly partner report would show which page converts best. If it were the coach's, because that audience already wants growth help, the natural next step would be a joint session with the coach. Even a handful of bookings from that session would justify the partner page.

Weekly time and what it replaces

Partner funnels need less weekly attention than ad funnels because traffic arrives in bursts when partners mention you. Plan 30 minutes a week to check new partner leads and an hour a month for the partner report. It replaces the informal habit of thanking partners only when you remember who sent someone.

The common mistake

Treating partner leads like cold leads. A referred contact who receives the same generic nurture as an ad lead feels the drop in attention. Route them to a senior person and respond the same day.

When not to build separate partner pages

If you have twenty small partners who each send one lead a year, individual pages create maintenance work for little gain. Use one shared partner page and let the referral link do the crediting. Build dedicated pages only for partners who send business every month. For setting up the commission rules behind all of this, read the guide to the click funnels affiliate setup.

Troubleshooting

Partner pages are being found in search. Duplicate pages compete with your main offer. Set partner pages to not be indexed in the page settings.

The partner name field is empty. The hidden field is not filled from the link. Add the partner name as a parameter to the link you give them.

Partners say they sent people who never appear. Visitors may have searched your name instead of clicking the link. Ask new contacts how they heard about you on the form and match the answers manually.

The partner notification sends before the sale is confirmed. The workflow triggers on form submission. Change the trigger to payment received or appointment attended.

Frequently asked questions

Should I show the partner's logo on their page?

Only with written permission. A name and a sentence about the relationship is usually enough. Logos imply an endorsement that partners may not want to give publicly.

How do I report results back to partners?

Send a short monthly summary of leads, bookings and sales from their link, plus the commission due. Partners who can see results send more. The affiliate portal shows them their own figures at any time.

Can partners promote a lead magnet rather than the main offer?

Yes, and it often works better because the first ask is smaller. Use the click-through pattern from how to build a click funnel, with the lead magnet as step one. The lead generation funnel guide covers how to choose a magnet that attracts buyers rather than browsers.
